This was a chilly affair for those hardy souls who took part, but one that warmed the coffers of The Red Door. We have pictures to prove that a motely crew of Gavin Austin, Ivan O'Dwyer, Peter McKenna & David Quinn - all dads at The Red Door - were joined by friends and relations, Vincent Barton, Conor and Stephen Quinn, who all made the leap into the depths of the 40 Foot at Sandycove on Christmas Day. They were encouraged by the availability of hot sausages and cups of tea, as well as nips of whiskey to aid the recovery process.
It's a popular place on Christmas Day, with a very festive atmosphere, and a sense of wonder, bordering on madness, that people would voluntarily strip to their swim-gear and plunge into icy-cold waters. But the weather was fine, and the low sun helped to make it all the more enjoyable.
With a special page set up on MyCharity.ie, the event managed to bring in over €3,000 in donations to The Red Door. Many heartful thanks to all who donated.
