RIYC Lunch 10th Sept

The Red Door receives significant funding from the Department of Education. However, these funds don't cover the full range of costs and activities. For that reason, we need to raise our own funds every year in order to maintain and develop the range of services that are provided.

Our first event of the new year is the annual lunch, at the RIYC. Driven by Adele McInerney, The Red Door's mums and friends have organised their 9th annual event, where guests enjoy a champagne reception followed by a superb four course lunch. Raffle and spot prizes are on offer, with funds coming from the €100 per person contribution. If you want to make up a table of friends, or join others at a table, just call us on (01) 663 7532.

Last Year's Events

Our new school year started with our annual lunch at the Royal Irish Yacht Club. Adele McInerney and friends did a great job, as ever, and succeeded in raising over €14,000 for The Red Door. Martha Brawn hosted the second "Old Conna Golf Club Granny Competition". This was followed by a table quiz run by Carol McKenna, a Red Door grandmum, in Powerscourt Golf Club. Then, over Christmas, Ann Austin, another Red Door grandmum, raised more funds from "The Captain's Charity Golf Day" in Killiney Golf Club. We certainly have fantastic grandparents here.

Separately, we are delighted to report on our Christmas Day Swim, which involved several dads plus friends, and this raised over €3,000. Another dad, Nick Baird ran the half-marathon and he succeeded in not only finishing in a very fast time, but also raising funds for The Red Door. We had a great Table Quiz, on 27th Feb at The Goat Pub in Goatstown, run by Carina Dolly. It was a great success, as always, and managed to raise over €5,000.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone involved in all of these events - the organisers, the raffle-prize donors, the cash donors - everyone. Thanks to you all.

Special Donation

We want to acknowledge a special donation received over Christmas from Monkstown Educate Together. METNS were the previous occupants of our current "new" premises, and we were delighted to receive their donation. METNS have moved on to brand new premises on Kill Avenue, whilst The Red Door is now occupying their "old" portacabins in Monkstown. Both schools are delighted with these arrangements! We wish METNS all the best, and thank them for their donation to The Red Door.

Recent Events

On 14th May 2010, we held our annual list of Fund-Raising Events is our 9th Annual Golf Classic. This has always been the mainstay of The Red Door's fund-raising schedule, and offers a terrific day and night out.

The annual Women's Mini-Marathon took place again this year on Bank Holiday Monday, 7th June 2010. In the past, lots of friends have used this as a great opportunity to raise funds for The Red Door, and we are happy to help people to do so.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Following on his prowess on the Half-Marathon, Nick Baird is now in training to undertake a climb of Kilimanjaro . . . watch this space! And arguably equally brave, albeit more brief in duration, we have some hardy souls who are going to do a SkyDive - all to raise funds for The Red Door. What can we say? Simply fantastic.

Corporate Donations

We are extremely grateful to O2 for their Affinity Scheme grants to The Red Door. This scheme has resulted on over €150,000 being paid by O2 to IAA (Irish Autism Action) for distribution to various member groups, and The Red Door has received over €10,000 so far. This scheme involved O2 customers requesting that 5% of their call charge being donated to their IAA member of choice. It is coming to a close shortly, but has been run for over the last 12 months.

Separately, O2 staff have come to The Red Door twice over the last 12 months to help with the painting and decorating projects that were undertaken in our new premises. These were part of O2's Volunteer Program, which provided non-cash benefits to recipients of this volunteer scheme.

We also want to acknowledge the donation from Covidien Services which followed a staff visit to The Red Door to see the work that we are doing.
