December developments

Schools received an email from DoES detailing "changes" to the prior letter of offer to the school - and the detail of some of the terms. Needless to say, these changes were not to the benefit of either the school or the staff. Straight away, we replied to DoES and asked these "proposed changes" be put on hold until we consulted with colleagues in the other schools.

Our chairman got feedback from the Negotiating Team to their view of these proposed changes - and we were assured that these proposed changes could be challenged and rejected by referring back to previous meetings and minutes of those meetings. Watch this space to see how this develops.

The changes are:

1. The official "opening date" of the new Special School will be delayed until both Principal and teachers are recruited. This will delay the timing of the transfer of our tutors to the SNA Payroll system. This, in turn, will mean a delay in their receipt of the "assimilated" SNA pay rate - and this is not to the tutors' benefit.

2. The post of the Admin Principal will be taken into account when determining when a departing tutor/SNA can be replaced. This is a significant change which would result in us losing one of the approved tutor/SNA posts during the transition period.
